Fish curry

Fish gravy is one of my most favourite recipes from my childhood. The aroma of this gravy is just unique and appetizing. I remember in my childhood I could smell it even from the entrance of my house. Today I got a nice piece of salmon from which I am going to show you how to make this curry.

Ingredients:

Cooking time : 45 mins
Servings : 6
For masala:
1. Coriander seeds - 3 tsp
2. Pepper corns - 1 tsp
3. Rice - 1 tsp
4. Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
5. Fennel seeds - 1/2 tsp
6. Chana dal - 1/2 tsp
7. Coriander leaves ( chopped ) - 2 tbsp
8. Dry red chillies - 4
9. Shallots onion ( chopped ) - 5
10. Garlic ( chopped ) - 5 cloves
11. Cinnamon stick - 1/2 inch 
12. Cloves - 4
13. Coconut ( grated ) - 1/4 cup
For curry:
14. Sesame Oil - 10 tbsp
13. Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tsp
14. Onion - 1/2 cup
15. Curry leaves - 10-15 leaves
16. Tamarind water - 1 cup 
17. Salt - as required
18. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
19. Fish - 1/2 kg

( soak one big gooseberry size tamarind in water and take the water from it ) 
( Wash the fish using turmeric, salt and curd )

Method of preparation:
For masala:
1. In a pan add 2 tbsp oil and rice. Wait till the rice puffs up nicely (but not brown). 
2. Add chana dal, coriander seeds, pepper corns, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, red chillies, cinnamon and  cloves. Keep in low flame and fry until its golden color. 
3. Add onion and garlic. Fry for 2 mins and add coriander leaves and coconut. Fry until the coconut becomes very dry. 
4. Cool down and grind it to a smooth paste. 
For curry:
5. In a pan add oil and add fenugreek seeds.
6. Add onion and curry leaves. Sauté for 2 mins.
7. Add grinded paste and saute for 2 mins. Add  little water and mix well.
8. Add tamarind water and add turmeric powder and salt.  
9. Mix well and boil until the oil comes out and the curry reached perfect consistency.
10. Add fish pieces and mix it gently. Close and cook for 10 mins in medium flame.
11. The fish in the curry will cook very quickly. So don't over cook it!!

Notes:
1. Fish curry tastes perfect with sesame oil and shallots but you can also use any oil and onion of your choice.
2. This curry tastes better the next day you prepare!!Yes I am sure. Try it with white rice the next day you prepare. I am sure you will enjoy it..
