Vaalapoo poriyal | Banana flower stir fry

Banana flower has more medical benefits in itself. It is mostly used in South East Asian cuisine for making salads, soups and curries.

Today I am going to share a stir fry recipe using banana flower.

Ingredients:
1. Banana flower (chopped) - 1&1/2 cup
2. Onion (chopped) - 1/4 cup
3. Boiled toor dal - 2 tbsp
4. Coconut (grated) - 2 tbsp
5. Oil - 2 tbsp
6. Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
7. Urad dal - 1/2 tsp
8. Chana dal - 1/2 tsp

(clean the banana flower by removing tall stick and oval shaped part in it)
Method of preparation:
1. In a pressure cooker add banana flower and water.
2. Add salt and turmeric powder and keep for visil.
3. Strain the water and keep the banana flowers separately.
4. Heat a pan and add oil. Add tempering ingredients (mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal).
5. Wait until the mustard seeds start crackling and dal becomes golden. 
6. Add onion and cook for 1 minute.
7. Add banana flower, chilli powder and boiled toor dal. 
8. Add required salt and coconut. 
9. Mix and serve!!
