Broken Wheat upma

Upma is basically one of the South Indian semolina recipe. It is a perfect and easy breakfast or dinner. It tastes better with idli podi, chutney or even pickle. 

In this post I am going to share an upma recipe by using broken wheat rava. 

Ingredients:
Servings : 2
Cooking Time : 20 mins
1. Wheat rava - 1 glass
2. Carrot ( chopped ) - 1/2 cup
3. Green Beans ( chopped ) - 1/2 cup
4. Onion (chopped ) - 1/2
5. Red chilly ( splitted ) - 2
6. Ginger ( crushed ) - 1 tsp
7. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
8. Urad dal - 1/2 tsp
9. Chana dal - 1/2 tsp
10. Oil - 2 tbsp
11. Salt - as required
12. Ghee - 1 tsp 
13. Curry leaves - as required

Method of preparation:
1. In a pan take oil and tempering ingredients (mustard seeds, urad dal and chana dal). Wait until the mustard seeds splutters and the dal becomes golden color. 
2. Add onion, red chilly, ginger and curry leaves. Sauté for a min.
3. Add vegetables and sauté for a min.
4. Add 3&1/2 glasses of water. Let it boil very well. ( broken wheat usually takes above 3 glasses of water for 1 glass of semolina ). 

5. Add about 1&1/2 tsp salt and add rava. Close it and cook for 5 minutes or until the water get absorbed by the rava. 
6. After 5 minutes add a tsp of ghee and give a good mix.
7. Close the lid and simmer for 3 minutes. 
8. Hot and aromatic wheat upma is ready to serve!!

Notes:
1. You can also make this recipe by using pressure cooker . For that after adding rava to the water, close the lid and pressure cook it for 4 visils. After releasing the pressure, open and simmer again for 3 minutes by adding ghee.
